The Shadow Secretary of State for Health and Labour MP for Leicester South, Jon Ashworth, visited Avenue Primary School to celebrate World School Milk Day on Friday 27th September.

During the visit, Jon spoke about the importance of school milk for fulfilling vital nutritional needs and bestowed the school with the prestigious ‘School of the Month’ award on behalf of the School and Nursery Milk Alliance. The award recognises the school’s enthusiastic efforts to promote healthy lifestyles for their pupils and is in-keeping with the Alliance’s aims of preventing child hunger and malnutrition.

“Our children deserve the best possible start in life and that includes a healthy and balanced nutrition,” enthused Jon.

“I am very pleased that Avenue Primary School is helping their pupils to develop wholesome eating habits and lead healthier and happier lives. I congratulate Avenue Primary on receiving this award and I have no doubt that the school will continue to promote a healthy lifestyle within its community.”

Avenue Primary School is served by Cool Milk, the UK’s leading school and nursery milk supplier, which sources fresh milk for the children’s daily 1/3 pint milk entitlement through local dairies and ensures the children get the nourishment they need to thrive as they grow and learn.
