Cool Milk recently engaged with thousands of customers via an online survey, following the concerning news there would be changes to the way free milk for children under 5 is accessed by all settings.

If nurseries, pre-schools and primary schools wanted to continue benefiting from free milk for their under-5s, each month the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) would require settings to upload a redacted copy of their attendance register onto their online Nursery Milk account.

DHSC planned to introduce this significant change to the scheme in August 2022. However, working with our friends at The School and Nursery Milk Alliance (SNMA), as well as our loyal customers, we worked incredibly hard to share the concerns of those most affected by this proposal – Early Years Childcare Providers and the children they work so very hard to care for.

We were delighted to receive confirmation from DHSC that “the proposed changes will no longer take effect from 1 August 2022 … it is intended that the changes will instead take effect in 2023”

Cool Milk and SNMA will continue our discussions with DHSC in the hope we can persuade them to withdraw the proposed change permanently!

We know this is great news for many settings and with the ever-increasing demands on Early Years providers, we just couldn’t let this one go without a fight!
